Hey! I've never been to New York City in my entire life but I have 1.5 days to spend there between flights this week. With this very limited amount of time, what would you all say is top priority to see as a tourist? I thought since a good chunk of you work there that you'd be better to ask than my distant family that hasn't visited NYC since the 90s…. Haha

Walk around. It's not necessarily a "thing" to do, but is by far my favorite part of NY . You will hear hundreds of languages, smell all types of cuisine, and can become immersed completely by observing the several million people who have their own lives.
For specifics, it's okay to do one touristy thing. Whenever I'm in NY , I avoid Times Square like the plague, but there's something to be said about seeing it once. I would personally recommend the Hudson Yards observatory or One WTC.
DUMBO and the Park Slope Brooklyn area are great for food, coffee, and drinks. Think about a really niche interest you have - guarantee that NYC will have a store dedicated to it. Don't put pressure on yourself to see everything, being in NY and taking in the energy will be an experience in and of itself. For general shopping, SoHo is awesome. Chelsea and Hell's Kitchen have some great food options as well, the Chelsea Market is a personal favorite of mine to chill at.
Also, if you can't walk then take the Subway. You could take an Uber, but you're paying about a 1000% markup and it won't necessarily be any faster. The MTA is extremely well laid-out and you can pretty much get anywhere. Would try to avoid riding it later in the night if possible, but no reason to be paranoid. Just be alert and aware.
Enjoy your trip. For all of the shit it has to deal with, NYC is still the greatest city that I've ever been to. And I've been everywhere. Cheers.
I'm a big fan of the East Village, West Village, and SoHo. Definitely spend a lot of time walking around and you'll see a bunch of cool little shops and restaurants.

Also, its easy to rent a Citi bike and ride around. There is a bike path around the outside of Manhattan - definitely a cool ride. And riding through Central Park is a great ride as well.

my friend who lives there and I rode around Central Park on those Citi bikes Palm Sunday weekend last year (or maybe the year before). The weather was amazing and it was really relaxing.

Love this idea, because it is something that New Yorkers actually do, and it is fun and accessible for anyone.
Lets have a great day - but walk across the Brooklyn bridge go to the brewery over there with refills you do yourself. Walk back take a break, go into soho shop around, then meatpacking for dinner. That is what I would do if you havent been there before.
