Tech to power prop trading

hello wso ,

Currently I am working in a data analyst role at a big tech firm in Europe. I am 2yrs in the role and graduated 1 year ago from a target both bachelor and masters

I am on a late stage interview for a power prop trading firm in Europe. It is really small - 50 employees - and founded 3 years ago but they are doing well and expanding.

They offer a nice basic salary and I will trade the capital of the firm.
I was not born with a passion and I am willing to try out different things. This is the reason why I want to change both role and industry.
I find tech pretty boring at an early stage of your career and I find the commodity market interesting.
I think that this career move might make sense given that I can try it out for 6/12 months and If I do not like it I can get back to tech or stay in the same industry and move to originator/marker risk roles.

I am concern about:

  • move back to tech if I do not like it

  • move to a bigger company / major/ fund / bb doing trading later in my career

-move to a different role if I do not like trading

what is your opinion ?

One year out of school so you are what, 23? You don't need to have everything figured out or have your entire career path decided now. If you think the trading offer is interesting and you don't like what you are doing now, might as well try it and switch. Worst case, you don't like this either and you can go back to school for a masters as a way to reset your job search.
