Why do you want to do fundamental research at two sigma? If you want to do fundamental research, going to firms that specialize in fundamental approaches makes much more sense. I can't speak from experience or knowledge, but since their main approach is quantitative, the fundamental seems like a tertiary / experimental business for them to feed their main money making endeavor - you will always be more of an expense / testing team, and that will eventually impact comp, the type of work you get to do, opportunity for advancement, growth, etc (maybe not in huge ways, but I would bet there is some impact). If you want to work at two sigma because you think their culture or approach is great, I would focus on doing the quant path (can't comment on that path because I don't know it). If you want to do fundamental investing, there are many better  firms you should focus on. Getting out of that, you really shouldn't focus on getting a job at one firm, more about setting yourself up to be capable of doing the things you like the most, then picking from the best firms at the time.

Two Sigma probably trying to follow the DE Shaw model where they've built a real long short equities business that does ok (or at least that's my impression)

But will be good for someone with fundamental background IB ER that wants to dabble in quant world and pondering a transition to a more quanty role down the line.

I went through their process. It is kind of like a joke. Happy to share more info. Unless you are really out of options I would not put too much effort here.
